2026年7月からの3年間、引き続き日本医学英語教育学会（JASMEE）の理事長を拝命しました、岡山労災病院院長の伊達 勲です。岡山大学脳神経外科教授を2023年3月に定年退任し、現職となりました。JASMEEのさらなる発展のため微力ながら力を尽くして参りますので、皆様のご指導ご鞭撻をよろしくお願い申し上げます。本学会は医学英語の普及、研究と医学英語教育の促進のため、様々な活動をしています。詳しくは本学会のこのホームページの各所に記載がありますが、皆様の医学英語の学びや教育に役立つものが多数あります。
1．年次学術集会
1年に1回、原則として7月の土曜・日曜の2日間、年次学術集会を開催します。医学英語教育に携わる多くの先生方からの各施設での医学英語の取組の発表に加えて、特別講演・教育講演、シンポジウムや特別企画などで、明日からの医学英語関係の活動に役立つものが満載です。年次学術集会の発表論文の多くは、Journal of Medical English Education (JMEE) にその後論文発表されます。各施設での工夫をどうぞ積極的にご発表ください。
2．日本医学英語検定試験（医英検）
本学会の大きな事業の一つが、日本医学英語検定試験（医英検、EPEMP=Examination of Proficiency in English for Medical Purposes）の普及と実施です。基礎級（4級）、応用級（3級、リスニング試験あり）の2つは、例年6月の日曜日に全国10数会場で開催され、年々受験者が増加しており、2026年は1,600名を越えました。医師国家試験などで医学英語の問題がかなり出題されるようになったことも受験者が増えてきている理由かと思います。医学生、研修医、医療系大学学生、看護師，医療通訳者など受験者層はさまざまです。
エキスパート級（1級）、プロフェッショナル級（2級）は、国際学会で不自由なく発表でき（2級）、その発表を指導出来るレベル（1級）を求めた試験となっており、例年1月に実施しています。
3．EMP BLOG掲載
医学英語あるいは教育に関する話題をエッセイ風にまとめて、ほぼ毎月、ホームページのRESOURCESの欄に掲載しています。医学英語教育に携わる皆様の日常にヒントになる内容を見つけていただけます。今後、この欄にミニ動画の掲載も検討して参ります。
4．Journal of Medical English Education (JMEE) の発行
掲載される多くの論文は年次学術集会での発表を論文化したものですが、それ以外の論文でも投稿可能です。論文は医学英語関係であれば、日本語でも英語でも受け付けています。この領域のジャーナルとしては貴重な存在で、皆さんの研究成果を積極的に投稿くださることを希望します。
5．テキストの発刊
学会として「医学英語教育ガイドライン」を作成し、それに沿った教科書として「総合医学英語テキストStep 1, Step 2」を刊行しました。全国の医学生、医療系学生の医学英語教育の為のテキストとして普及しています。Step 1につきましては現在改訂版を作成中です。また、医英検の受験用教本（3級・4級用）を発行しています。大変人気がある教本で、最新の改訂版を2023年に発行いたしました。
本学会の会員構成は、医師などの医学関係者と英語の教官が半分半分です。また、医学英語に興味ある学生さんの入会（学生さんは会費無料です）もwelcomeです。日本人以外の会員も非常に多く、年次学術集会では大変質疑応答が盛り上がります。グローバル時代にあって、本学会は医学英語教育の普及の為になくてはならない存在になってきました。多くの皆様が本学会に入会され、医学英語教育のknow-howを学び、学術集会での発表を通じて会員の皆さんにアイデアを共有くださることを祈念いたします。

I am Isao Date, Director of Okayama Rosai Hospital, and I have been appointed to continue as President of the Japan Society for Medical English Education (JASMEE) for three years from July 2026. I retired from the position of Professor of Neurosurgery at Okayama University in March 2023, and I look forward to your continued support for the further development of JASMEE.
The Society engages in a variety of activities to promote medical English research and education. Details can be found throughout this website, and many of them are useful for your study and teaching of medical English.
1. Annual Scientific Meeting
The Annual Scientific Meeting is usually held once a year on a Saturday and Sunday in July. In addition to presentations by many professionals involved in medical English education at their institutions, the Annual Scientific Meeting is packed with special and educational lectures, symposia, and special programs that will be useful for activities related to medical English from tomorrow. Many of the papers presented at the Annual Scientific Meeting will be subsequently published in the Journal of Medical English Education (JMEE). Please feel free to present your own innovations at your institution.
2. The Examination of Proficiency in English for Medical Purposes (EPEMP)
One of the major projects of the Society is the promotion and implementation of the Examination of Proficiency in English for Medical Purposes (EPEMP). The Basic Level (Level 4) and the Intermediate Level (Level 3, with a listening test) are usually held on a Sunday in June at more than 10 venues nationwide. The number of examinees has steadily increased over the years, surpassing 1,600 in 2026. The number of examinees has been increasing due to the fact that the National Medical Licensing Examination includes a considerable number of questions in medical English. The number of examinees varies from medical students, residents, medical university students, nurses, and medical interpreters.
The Expert Level (Level 1) and Professional Level (Level 2) examinations are held in January each year, and require applicants to be able to make presentations at international conferences without difficulty (Level 2), and to be able to give instruction in such presentations (Level 1).
3. EMP BLOG
We publish an EMP BLOG in the RESOURCES section of our website almost every month. Each post is written in an essay style and covers topics related to medical English or medical English education. We hope readers involved in medical English education will find useful ideas and practical insights that can be applied to their daily work and teaching. We are also considering adding short educational videos to this section in the future.
4. Publication of the Journal of Medical English Education (JMEE)
Most of the papers published in the Journal are papers presented at the Annual Scientific Meetings, but other papers may also be submitted. We accept papers in both English and Japanese, as long as they are related to medical English. This is a valuable journal in this area, and we hope that you will actively submit your research results to the journal.
5. Publication of textbooks
The Society prepared “Guidelines for Medical English Education” and published “Comprehensive Medical English Textbook Step 1 and Step 2” as textbooks in accordance with the Guidelines. The textbooks have been widely used as textbooks for medical English education for medical school students and other medical field students nationwide. We are currently preparing a revised edition of Step 1. We also publish textbooks for taking the EPEMP. The latest edition of this popular textbook was published in 2023.
The membership of the society consists of half doctors and other medical professionals and half English instructors. Students interested in medical English are also welcome to join (no membership fee for students). We have a large number of non-Japanese members, and the question-and-answer sessions at the annual meetings are very lively. In this global era, our society has become indispensable for the spread of medical English education. I hope that many of you will join our society, learn the know-how of medical English education, and share your ideas with our members through presentations at the annual meeting.
